The western Allies push into Germany and the Red Army is fights its way towards Berlin. Churchill is worried about Russia’s post-war plans for Europe but most not endanger the increasingly threatened alliance between the west and Russian A British military attached to the Red Army discovers a Russian war crime against the Polish government in exile and is seized by Stalin’s feared intelligence service. He finds unexpected help from an enemy and fellow prisoner a German Captain. They discover a common bond in freemasonry and are bound by honor, oath and secrets. They are joined by Anna, a beautiful Polish nurse cast adrift on the tides of war. The three are pursued by A Ruthless Russian commander through Germany caring a secret that can change the outcome of the world and the fate of millions. Brother’s War was produced with strict attention to historic accuracy and military detail and portrays the horrors and heroism of desperate battles. The film also opens the door into the ancient order of the freemasons and presents unmatched insight on the real histories of these men, brothers all, who have fought in every war for hundreds of years.

What do you think of these fictional characters?
Christian:His parents are both strictly Catholic. His gay brother came out when he was 3 and his parents disowned him. He was molested by the priest of his church and his parents knew but made him keep quiet. His two best friends are lesbians.(Carmen and Jojo) He gets arrested at a party, and his parents kick him out. He is forced to live in his van with his girlfriend, Gloria, who was also arrested, and who’s uncle and step aunt kick her out. Christian becomes an atheist after he finds his long lost brother and learns about all of the pain his parents put him(and christian) through. He decides to murder his parents.

Gloria: Her father died fighting a war and her mother died of a horrible virus that spread like wild fire in the year 2000. (It takes place in 2013;it’s also a sci fi thing, kinda) She lives with her uncle and her horrible step aunt. She is an artist. She is very rebellious and is always running away from home. After Christian and her get arrested, She finds out that her uncle and step aunt were planning on kicking her out for a long time, so she moves out. Not knowing about Christian killing his parents, she burns down her uncles house while he is asleep.
What do you think of thees characters? I’m writing a book.

Your characters are obviously based on the most negative stereotypes that you could find and therefore none of them feel like real human beings.

With love in Christ.

Why is there so much ignorance about Santeria ?
I was born and raised in a bible thumping family. I came to the decision to research Santeria on my own and the whole "demonic" "devil worship" stuff is truly from outsiders looking in. Why is it that people always think their religion is the only way to go ? Like my friend says, "God was smart when he made religion, it’s like high school. In high school you have many different groups of people, why are they there? To receive there H.S. Diploma." So, why is it that people like to judge rather than to do research ?

People fear what they don’t understand, and sometimes their fear causes them to have a closed mind.
fairylala | Feb 03, 2010

Probably the same reason there’s ignorance about everything.
subprimelendor | Feb 03, 2010

There is ignorance everywhere… even in the santeria community.

I am currently a iyawo in the religion, crowned Obatala Ayaguna. I am also baptized in La 21 division (Dominican Vodou)… When I have explained this to certain people they’ve flipped out on me and said so many things talking down on it… But in reality, the same wars were being faught in Africa… The Dahomey people (which is where vodou stems from) Vs. the Yoruba people (which is where Lukumi/Santeria stemmed from)… It’s sad that these wars still exists… This santera disrespected a vodou Lwa (Candelo Cedife) and walked off and said she didn’t have time to hear him as he was talking to her… But I BET you she wouldn’t have done that if it were Shango instead…

Even with other bantu tribal stemmed religions that was brought by congolese slaves, even some santeros talk alot of stuff about Palo Mayombe… Often comparing it to others as "The Darkside of Santeria"… Or even some santeros saying that they should stay away from Palo just because…

Religious persecution goes alot of ways… But I know what you mean about Bible thumping Christians… When I first came back to work with no hair peaking out of my hat, dressed in all white, they asked me about my religion and one of my coworkers (who is very christian) proceeds to ask me "Why’d you do that for?" … I even had this one lady (African American) that had met me at a training for work that said to me "I’m not pushing this on you, but I feel inspired to say that you know, Jesus Christ came down to earth to save our people from these ‘rituals’ that you practice…"

I sarcastically snapped back at her saying: "Ya know what saved OUR people from these rituals? It was a bunch of LAZY @$$ europeans who wanted to profit off of a new land that they found by accident… There were many attrocities that went down with OUR ancestors; they were kidnapped, raped, killed, treated as if they were not human… JUST to be SAVED from their ‘rituals’ that they were happily practicing before the Europeans arrived? … Lady, I’ve read a few versions of the bible and I wouldn’t blame Jesus Christ for ’saving our pepole’ from these rituals…"

She was sooooo shocked… but i guess sometimes you have to put people in their places with education… (sometimes with sarcastic educational facts)

meaning
NO sapphire

Do you mean sapphire? Because yes that is the gem associated with virgo. And no meaning for you. It derives its association from its planetary ruler mercury Research has shown that the planets do have an affect on gems, metals and crystals due to their cycles. If I guessed wrong I apologize.

Okay, so lets pretend his name is Bob. Bob is somewhat popular, but yet not. and he started randomly talking to me, and it turned in to a few times a month to every day. No matter how short the conversations are, we have been talking every day for about a month or more. no one knows we’re talking, and its just strange that he even started talking to me in the first place. i really like him now, but we dont flirt. its not something we do, but we have like code names for like "kissing" and "sex" and stuff, as an inside joke. we talk about sex and everything, so its not awkward. We used to video chat, but his computer broke, so then we text. We used to text for hours, and he ALWAYS texted/i.med me first. and last saturday, his mom wasnt home and he really wanted me to come to his house, but i didnt since i was scared since we never hung out before..but it was fine and he texted me up until last wednesday. he stopped answering then. so i texted him thursday, we talked, then he stopped answering. same thing friday, and so on. for a whole week i texted him first, and the conversation stopped. and he called me hot, but that was random. and he and i are trying to meet up in school but its hard. does he like me? why does he randomly stop texting me? and why doesnt he text me first anymore? he did a week ago…and tomorrow we have our first class together since i transferred..what do i do?!

I am looking for Fleece Fabric with Bumble the Abominable Snowman…..Know where I can find it?
I have been on a search for 2 years now looking for Fleece Fabric that has Bumble the Abominable Snowman from Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer Cartoon. Does anybody know where I can locate this material? I need at least 3 yards of it. Doesn’t matter if it is in a store or online, i just would love to find it. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks so much!

You’ve been looking for two years, so I don’t know if I can be of any help. If you have found any fleece with designs of other characters from the film, you might try to find out who manufactured it and when. Then go to their web site and see if you can order it directly from them.
If that doesn’t work, try some different Internet searches starting with fabric outlets, Christmas prints. Try contacting any of the fabric stores listed and talk to a representative. Even if they don’t carry it, they may know of someone who does.
You could put an ad up on Craig’s List or try eBay.
Try searching under "Bumble/Rudolph," to see what comes up.
Only suggestions, but wish you luck, and hope you get a better answer.

I’ve seen Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer fabric with Bumble on it. It has all the major characters on it though. I found it at Hancock Fabrics. But as for fabric with just Bumble on it, I have not seen that

I looked and had no luck also.. but i did see some fleece fabric that had bumble on it (with the other characters) at walmart. The only other idea i can come up with is to embroider bumble on some plain fleece fabric. good luck

Why is it when someone works for a company for a long time they feel they can do whatever they want?
I just got my first professional job after college. I’m relatively young and new (23 yo). This is a hospital that contains a large number of employees. I notice employees that have been here for 10 or 30 years. They feel they can do whatever the hell they want to. Even treat people who are smaller then them like ****. I notice they have a kind of like don’t care type of attitudes about issues that are pressing as well. Also they are more likely to say what they really feel about some issue. I notice this for employees that have worked short times as well 2 to 5 years.

I know what you mean because I am in a new job, But, sometimes its not that they do w-e they want its, that they’ve been with the company longer and they do KNOW more then us. So, we feel like they do w-e they want. You get very comfortable when you have been working in a company for such a long time. I worked at Washington Mutual for 5 yrs and I felt so comfortable but, I never treated anyone bad if I needed to train you or help you in something I would do it! Good luck!

Me | Aug 11, 2006

one word.. SENIORITY .
babes | Aug 11, 2006

When you have been going to the same place every workday for 10 to 30 years, you become comfortable. Kind of like going home and sitting on the couch.
It isn’t something they probably even notice (you do, because you are new with fresh eyes).
However, being really comfortable does not give them the right to treat newer employees with disrespect. It could be that it is harder for employers to fire someone with that much seniority (they would have to have a really good reason and lots of documentation).
Please don’t use these employees as "models" of how to behave on the job. Work hard, don’t gossip or mistreat co-workers and if you must complain - be prepared with a solution.

What do you think of this short story ?
My last coin. I hadn’t been lucky tonight- usually I got maybe one or two small victories, but today I’d got none. The coin seemed dull in comparison to when I’d first exchanged my thirty-dollar bill for a handful of shining coins. It could be that it was because it was the only one left or maybe because all of my fingering jhad rubbed away the shine, or maybe the sparkle left alongside the hope that came with them.
I rolled the coin between my hands and blew on my closed fist, as I did with each one before slipping them into the slotmachine. Counting to four- my lucky number - I yanked the lever and crossed both hands. And my legs, too, for good measure. And maybe even my arms.
I suppose gambling away like this wasn’t a very good habit. More like a bad hobby, actually. Some people said winning big was as unlikely as winning the lottery, which is ironic considering how I’d once won a thousand dollar scratch-card. Of course, that money didn’t last long. I’d enjoyed food that wasn’t canned and payed back a small amount off my loans just to feel good for a few days.
Days, unfortunately, were the one thing that I didn’t have much of. In a week I’d be kicked out of my apartment. I’d begged for them to let me stay even though I hadn’t payed rent in months, layering false promises so skillfully I’d nearly believed them myself. Living on the streets wouldn’t be much worse than living in that apartment, though. I didn’t have electricity, running water, a heater, or anything much but a concrete cloor beneath my feet and a flickering light over my head. Some furniture, too; a creaky bed with stained sheets, a shaggy rug and a few pieces of rotting wood pinned together to make a bedstand. And a photo of me and Sean by that lake, with the water lillies he loved so much in the background. A picture frame holding what I believed to be a snapshot of my last and only happy moments, with Sean or without.
Not that I’d ever really been happy without him. Living with abusive, alchoholic single mother, I had a horrible childhood that actually physically hurts to look back on; thinking about those times makes the bruises and broken bones flare up in phantom pain. When Sean came along, I’d had nobody. I was a girl hardened by misuse and he taught me how to love. And when he’d gone, he’d taken it along with him to the grave. I’d turned to gambling; the clinking of coins together sounded hopefull to me, so much like the sound his change made in his pocket when he laughed.
Laughing was far off my mind as the slot machine pinged and lit up suddenly, clicking fruits around and around like some sort of deranged cartoon.
I can’t say I was surprised to find an apple, a lemon and an orange, and even more surprised not to feel the sinking feeling I had anticipated when this moment came. I’d gambled all my money away and I was feeling better than I had in weeks.
"’Scuse me, Miss? Are you a.. ah, Ms. Ellen James?"
I felt a shiver in the back of my neck, a sort of tingling you get when someone’s watching you from behind. For some reason, I had a feeling that this man had been doing it for quite a while.
I turned away from the corner I’d been sulking in, only to leap back suddenly and crack my head against the wall I’d just been facing. I cluctched my throbbing head and looked back.
The man looked like a vampire straight out of a horror movie; black pants, long black trenchcoat and greasy, badly cut hair dangling over his ears and framing a pale face with dark eyes and nearly transparent skin. He was tall, too, and from where I was he looked as if he was close to touching his head on the red-velvet ceiling of the casino.
I glared at him suspiciousley for a few moments, wondering what he wanted from me. He had potential to be a serial murder or an assassin, though I would doubt anyone had reason enough to send someone out to kill me.
We stood and stared at eachother liek that for a few moments until I noticed the badge on his shirt. The same one Sean once had from his old job.
"What do you want?" I said.
The man flicked his eyes back to me from the glowing neon of an outside motel, then blew a stray lock of oily hair away from his face.
"Just a note." He said, and reached into his pocket to take it out.
Imagine my surprise when instead of a folded paper in his hand he came out with a butterfly. And not a plastic toy, either; this one was real. Real twitching anntenne, real moving wings and a real note attached around its body.
The strange man held out his hand into my extended one and let the butterfly crawl onto my palm. Its little legs tickled my skin and mesmirized me all the same.
"Th-thank you," I muttered, shocked at this eccentric notion from a complete stranger.
But he had already left. I gazed around to see where’d he’d gone, but all that was left was me, the empty casino room and the butterfly. And, of course, the note.
That’s all I have so far. Any suggestions for improvements?
And I know it’s really bad tenses. I wasn’t really working on that and kind of let myself wander on alot of things. D:

The ending was beautiful. I love butterflies!!

I liked it.

blackoutparty111 | Feb 02, 2010

I feel like you are spouting too much information all at once. It’s a story, not a commercial. Also, you need to check tenses and subject-verb agreements. Good luck :) A Bit Bohemian | Feb 02, 2010

It’s good. I like the narration. Maybe u could add some detail(s) that give the butterfly some more sense (It’s already good, but can be even better) u have some great material.
Lady Blackhole | Feb 02, 2010

You do too much telling, honestly. I would suggest opening up with meeting this stranger. All that other information isn’t important at the moment. It can become more relevant later, and you should only put it in when the reader should know.

And in the first paragraph, there is an annoying repetition of "coin." Try to find other words.

I’m not sure how a butterfly would survive in a guy’s pocket, either. That part was a bit odd for me.

Overall, it’s not bad. It’s interesting. I don’t know if it draws the reader in (I was totally indifferent to the beginning), but it has an interesting premise. Lots of typos, though. Were you in a hurry to post this?
Mizzuz Spock | Feb 02, 2010

Your writing has such passion. And there is such intricate detail. I felt like I was actually there at the slot machine and I almost felt those phantom pains, myself. I wish I could write like that. I don’t know what these other people are thinking. You have the potential to be a phenomenal writer. I say you should definitely keep writing :) David | Feb 02, 2010

Question about a bible verse…believers, your opinions. Non believers….some ammunition?
thoughts please. Believers, what is your excuse to this glaringly ridiculous verse?

Judges 1:19 And the LORD was with Judah; and he drave out the inhabitants of the mountain; but could not drive out the inhabitants of the valley, because they had chariots of iron.

AMAZING! God the all powerful, omnipotent being…power over all things…but not chariots of iron.

As it has been said many times before…if you want to become a non believer, all you have to do is start reading the bible.
I guess if I was in the write frame of mind and the holy spirit was with me, I would have a different interpretation of that sentence??????
God certainly seems to attach a lot of red tape in his contracts. believe in me & I will save u…as long as u continue believing in me & never do anything bad(which u are going to do anyway). What about the people who DIDNT turn away & start idol worshipping? do they get screwed too?I mean when it says all of Israel, does it mean every single israelite? Isnt that like punishing the whole class for the actions of a few?I thought your own personal works mattered, not what the other people that live in the same place you happened to be born in did?
And if the bible is not for natural man, but for spirit, then i dont need to follow it right?
Because God doesn’t control the will of man!!! All he can do is guide us. Cant control the will of man
