 Cashback (2006)
IMDB rating: 7.40
Plot: When art student Ben Willis is dumped by his girlfriend Suzy, he develops insomnia. To pass the long hours of the night, he starts working the late night shift at the local supermarket. There he meets a colorful cast of characters, all of whom have their own ‘art’ in dealing with the boredom of an eight-hour-shift. Ben’s art is that he imagines himself stopping time. This way, he can appreciate the artistic beauty of the frozen world and the people inside it - especially Sharon, the quiet checkout girl, who perhaps holds the answer to solving the problem of Ben’s insomnia.

My till/drawer keeps coming up short/over?
OK I’ve worked at this job for about a month and week now. I haven’t had any problems with my drawer until this past week and a half. Sometimes I might be over/a dollar or two *because some people don’t want their change* but last week I got written up for my drawer being 20 dollars short, I was shocked! But it turns out that a newer girl Carmen (who once forgot to give someone their cashback) was also on my register without the till being counted.
I can say with about 90% certainty that it was her fault that time.
But today again I got written up for being over this time by 8 dollars and surprise someone else *This girl had gotten written up for being over the other day* was on my register without the drawer being counted between shifts.
I’m so frustrated with this because one more warning and I’m going to be fired. Idk what to do? From now on I’m going to be more careful just in case but if the managers decide not to check my drawer between shifts and someone else uses my register I don’t want to be in this situation again. I even asked one of my managers to count the drawer after my shift tonight but he said no and that he’d "make sure" no one went on it.
Baaaaah.
I mean the second time was probably me but the first time definitely was the other girl.
I’m really freaking out over this because this is one of best jobs I’ve had, I love it but I don’t want to get fired for something like this.
Should I ask my managers to count the drawer before and after my shifts? What if they so no to that suggestion, what else could I do?
First off you should never let anyone use the same cash drawer if they do they are suppose to count them in between shifts. The managers are wrong for letting this happen.
ADDED: if the manager refuses to count the drawer then just say that you will not be held responsible if it comes up short. If they don’t like it then tell the head boss, or if there isn’t one call the corporate office and make a complaint. They are not following company policy and should be reported.

Actually, if more than one person has access to the cash drawer, then you cannot be written up. This happened to me several years ago, and I was fired eventually. I appealed through the unemployement office twice, won twice and they were told in no uncertain words that what they did was illegal. The second time I went through the appeal, because they appealed the fact that I won, they actually brought a lawyer. Guess what….I won again.
Don’t sit back and let this happen. When you are written up, you are allowed to comment as much as you want in the write up, in writing. Do it. State that there was more than one person who had access on your drawer, and then, make sure they give you a copy of your write up. You may also want to contact the labor board. This is illegal, and they are creating a "hostile environment".
Good luck to you.
